Them Crooked Vultures was a short-lived rock trio made up of guitarist/vocalist Josh Homme (formerly of Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal), bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones (formerly of Led Zeppelin) and drummer/vocalist Dave Grohl (of Foo Fighters and formerly of Nirvana). The group recorded and released one self-titled album in 2009, followed by tours of North America and the United Kingdom, before going on a hiatus in 2010 which continues presently.

On an album filled with good, solid hard rock, “Bandoliers” leans a tad towards pop/rock as a classic-style breakup song. On the track, Jones adds a definite edge with his bouncy and bluesy bass while Grohl adds rudimentary drum accents and Homme brings it home with his fine vocal and guitar work.

Song Lyrics

Oh it’s too late, I got hit by the closing door
And as I watch myself reflect, on the wrong side of…
My, you’ve changed, You turned the corner I’ll never go
I admit I feel a bit deceived you’re expecting I’d follow

Bandoliers to fight me, dear
Nobody caused the rift,
We’ve just grown apart now
So, prepare and take aim, then fire

I’m fooling myself, fooling myself into believing you
All these fictionary tales, you’re telling yourself
Selfish, like a child that’s never heard of no
I watched him ever changing you, never find us

Bandoliers to fight you, dear
Nobody caused the rift,
Can’t become what I’m not
You’ve always my heart, so if it must be broken
Prepare and take aim, then fire

Fire away if you must, but I only came
Just to let you know: this is goodbye
Oh, goodbye, oh, goodbye, oh, goodbye

Prepare and take aim Then fire
Cause no one can make me die
No one can make, make me cry
